Annual General Meeting and Election of the New Council

Quarterly General Membership Meeting
As part of its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and active member participation, the Chamber convened its Quarterly General Membership Meeting in June 2026. The meeting served as an important platform for updating members on ongoing institutional reforms and engaging them in discussions on key governance matters affecting the future of the organisation.
The principal focus of the meeting was the continued review of the proposed amendments to the Chamber’s Memorandum and Articles of Association (M&A). Building on the governance discussions initiated during the Two-Day Council Retreat, members were taken through the proposed amendments clause by clause, enabling them to fully understand the purpose, implications, and intended outcomes of each proposed change.
The session was highly interactive, with members raising questions, seeking clarification, and providing valuable contributions on issues relating to governance, leadership tenure, membership provisions, and other constitutional matters. The discussions reinforced the Chamber’s commitment to ensuring that members remained fully informed and actively involved throughout the governance reform process.
Members were also informed that the proposed amendments would be presented as a Special Resolution at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), where they would have the opportunity to formally consider and vote on the revised Memorandum and Articles of Association. This consultative approach demonstrated the Chamber’s dedication to inclusive decision-making and sound corporate governance.
The Quarterly General Membership Meeting further strengthened communication between the Chamber’s leadership and its membership, reaffirming the importance of regular consultation, member engagement, and collective ownership of the Chamber’s institutional development and future direction.

Message from the President
Following the successful Annual General Meeting and the election of a new Council, the President of the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (SLCCIA), Mr Oluniyi Robbin-Coker, delivered a message of appreciation to members for the confidence placed in the new leadership. He acknowledged the challenges faced in the preceding period while reaffirming the Chamber’s renewed commitment to strengthening its institutional capacity and restoring its position as the leading voice of Sierra Leone’s private sector.
The President emphasised that the new Council would prioritise unity, inclusiveness, and stronger collaboration among members, government institutions, development partners, and the wider business community. He noted that a stronger Chamber depends on active member participation, shared responsibility, and a collective commitment to advancing the interests of the private sector.
He further outlined a vision centred on strengthening the Chamber’s membership base, enhancing advocacy and public–private dialogue, expanding strategic partnerships, improving communication and member services, and promoting greater opportunities for trade and investment. He encouraged members to work closely with the Council in rebuilding a vibrant, responsive, and member-focused institution capable of contributing meaningfully to Sierra Leone’s economic development.
The President’s message set the tone for the Chamber’s renewed direction, reaffirming the Council’s commitment to transparency, collaboration, and delivering greater value to members through effective representation, strategic engagement, and strong institutional leadership.
Building a Stronger Institution
During the period under review, the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (SLCCIA) undertook a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening its institutional capacity and enhancing its operational effectiveness. Recognising the importance of a strong and efficient Secretariat, the Chamber implemented measures to improve internal coordination, streamline administrative processes, and strengthen communication and engagement with members.
A key milestone in this process was the recruitment of additional Secretariat staff to support the Chamber’s expanding programme of work and improve service delivery to members. The strengthening of the Secretariat has enhanced the Chamber’s ability to coordinate activities, respond more effectively to members’ needs, and implement strategic priorities in a timely and professional manner.
The Chamber also continued to improve its internal systems and working procedures to support greater efficiency, accountability, and collaboration between the Council and the Secretariat. These reforms have contributed to a more coordinated institutional structure capable of delivering quality services and advancing the Chamber’s advocacy, trade promotion, and membership objectives.
These efforts reflect SLCCIA’s broader commitment to building a modern, professional, and member-focused institution that is well positioned to represent the interests of Sierra Leone’s private sector and contribute meaningfully to the country’s economic development.
Membership Growth and Engagement
A key priority during the period was the strengthening of the Chamber’s membership base. Efforts were directed at encouraging existing members to remain actively engaged while also attracting new members across different sectors of the economy.
The Chamber also enhanced communication with members through regular updates, consultations, and engagement platforms. This approach is intended to ensure that members remain informed, involved, and adequately represented in all Chamber activities.

Business Networking Lunch 2026
The Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (SLCCIA) successfully hosted its Business Networking Lunch on 19 May 2026 at the New Brookfields Hotel, Freetown, bringing together key stakeholders from the private sector, government, diplomatic missions, and development partners.

Staff Capacity Development
The Chamber invested in capacity-building initiatives for Secretariat staff, including a 10-day Canva training programmme aimed at strengthening digital communication and design capabilities. This has enhanced the Chamber’s ability to deliver more effective communication outputs.
Infrastructure and Office Improvement
Improvement works were undertaken at the Chamber premises, including painting and refurbishment of office spaces. These upgrades are part of ongoing efforts to create a more professional and functional working environment.
Strengthening Public-Private Dialogue
During the period under review, the Chamber continued to position itself as a leading voice for the private sector through active engagement with government institutions, development partners, and policy stakeholders.
Engagement with the Ministry of Trade and Industry
In April 2026, the Chamber Council met with the Minister of Trade and Industry to discuss priority areas for collaboration and private sector development.

A Secretariat representative participated in a multi-stakeholder consultation organized by the National Fire Force and the Elba Foundation to support the development of a comprehensive Fire Safety Act.
UNCT Sierra Leone Retreat 2026
The Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (SLCCIA) was represented at the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) Sierra Leone Retreat 2026, where it participated in discussions on strengthening collaboration between the private sector, government, United Nations agencies, and development partners in advancing Sierra Leone’s national development priorities.
The retreat provided an important platform for the Chamber to highlight the critical role of the private sector in driving economic growth, job creation, innovation, and investment. During the discussions, SLCCIA emphasised that sustainable national development can only be achieved through stronger partnerships that actively engage businesses in the design and implementation of development programmes.
The Chamber also underscored the importance of creating an enabling business environment that supports enterprise development, attracts investment, and promotes inclusive economic growth. Its participation reaffirmed SLCCIA’s commitment to strengthening public–private dialogue and working collaboratively with national and international partners to advance Sierra Leone’s development agenda.
Supporting SME Development
As part of its commitment to promoting enterprise development, the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (SLCCIA) participated in a Sierra Leone Economic Development Programme (SLEDP) panel discussion on the growth and development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
The panel discussion brought together representatives from the private sector, government, development partners, and business support organisations to examine the opportunities and challenges facing SMEs in Sierra Leone. Discussions focused on improving access to finance, strengthening business capacity, increasing market opportunities, and creating a more enabling environment for entrepreneurship and innovation.
Through its participation, the Chamber highlighted the vital contribution of SMEs to economic growth, employment, and private sector development. The engagement reaffirmed SLCCIA’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance SME competitiveness, strengthen business resilience, and promote inclusive and sustainable economic development in Sierra Leone.

Strengthening Engagement with Development Partners
The Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (SLCCIA) continued to strengthen its engagement with development partners through strategic discussions aimed at advancing private sector development and promoting sustainable economic growth. During the period under review, the Chamber held an engagement with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to explore opportunities for collaboration and identify areas of support for the private sector in Sierra Leone.
The discussions provided an opportunity for the Chamber to present the priorities and concerns of the business community while exploring potential partnerships in areas including investment promotion, business competitiveness, institutional capacity building, and economic development. The engagement reaffirmed the importance of sustained collaboration between development partners and the private sector in addressing key economic challenges and supporting national development objectives.
The Chamber also participated in a United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) engagement focused on industrial development, value addition, and private sector growth. The session explored opportunities for strengthening industrial productivity, enhancing enterprise competitiveness, and promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development. Through these engagements, SLCCIA reaffirmed its commitment to building strategic partnerships that create opportunities for its members and strengthen Sierra Leone’s private sector.
Regional Representation through FEWACCI
Following the Annual General Meeting, the President and Vice President I represented the Chamber at a meeting of the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FEWACCI) in Ghana. The regional engagement brought together Chamber leaders from across West Africa to discuss issues affecting the private sector and identify opportunities for greater regional collaboration.
Discussions focused on strengthening regional trade, promoting investment, supporting private sector development, and advancing economic integration within the ECOWAS region. The meeting also provided an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences, share best practices, and strengthen institutional partnerships among member Chambers.
The Chamber’s participation reinforced its commitment to regional cooperation and its continued support for initiatives that promote cross-border trade, economic integration, and stronger private sector collaboration across West Africa.
Representation & Public Engagement
National Economic and Industrial Engagements
The Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (SLCCIA) continued to maintain a strong presence at key national events and public engagements that promote industrial development, economic growth, and private sector advancement. During the period under review, the Chamber was represented at the commissioning of the expanded Sierra Leone Flour Mills facility, recognising the significance of continued investment in local manufacturing and industrial development.
The Chamber also participated in the National Labour Conference and Social Dialogue Forum, joining representatives from government, employers’ organisations, workers’ organisations, and development partners to discuss labour relations, employment, productivity, and inclusive economic growth. The engagement highlighted the importance of constructive social dialogue in creating a stable and enabling environment for businesses and workers alike.
Through these engagements, the Chamber reaffirmed its commitment to representing the interests of the private sector, contributing to national policy discussions, and supporting initiatives that promote industrialisation, employment creation, and sustainable economic development in Sierra Leone.
Public Awareness and Social Issues
The Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (SLCCIA) participated in national discussions on social and development issues through its involvement in a symposium on drug abuse. The engagement brought together stakeholders from various sectors to examine the impact of substance abuse on individuals, communities, productivity, and national development.
The Chamber’s participation reflected its recognition that social challenges can have a direct impact on the business environment, workforce productivity, and broader economic growth. Through such engagements, SLCCIA continues to support initiatives that promote awareness, community resilience, and collective action towards addressing issues that affect society and the private sector.
Media Visibility and Public Outreach
The Chamber strengthened its public visibility and stakeholder outreach through increased engagement with the media. During the period under review, the President participated in media programmes, including Focus Salone on Amaze TV and interviews with Truth Media, providing platforms to communicate the Chamber’s priorities, activities, and vision for private sector development.
These engagements enabled the Chamber to share updates on its work, highlight key issues affecting businesses, and promote greater public understanding of its role as the voice of Sierra Leone’s private sector. Through continued media engagement, SLCCIA aims to enhance transparency, strengthen stakeholder communication, and improve awareness of opportunities and initiatives that support business growth and economic development.
Looking Ahead
Extraordinary General Meeting and Special Resolution
The Chamber will continue preparations for the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), where members will consider and vote on the proposed amendments to the Memorandum and Articles of Association (M&A) through a Special Resolution.
The meeting represents an important milestone in the Chamber’s ongoing governance strengthening process, providing members with the opportunity to formally consider and approve reforms aimed at improving institutional effectiveness, strengthening governance structures, and ensuring that the Chamber’s governing framework remains fit for purpose.
Membership Expansion
Strengthening membership remains a key priority for the Chamber. Future efforts will focus on re-engaging existing members, attracting new businesses, and expanding representation across different sectors of the private sector.
These initiatives are aimed at building a stronger and more diverse membership base while enhancing the value, services, and opportunities available to members.
Revival of Key Chamber Events
The Chamber is working towards the revival of key flagship programmes, including Trade Fairs, Annual Dinners, and Business Networking Events.
These platforms will create opportunities for businesses to connect, showcase their activities, build strategic partnerships, promote investment, and strengthen collaboration within the private sector.
Strengthening Public–Private Dialogue
The Chamber will continue to strengthen engagement with government institutions, development partners, and other stakeholders to ensure that private sector priorities are effectively represented in policy discussions and national development initiatives.
Through sustained public–private dialogue, the Chamber aims to contribute to the creation of a more supportive and enabling business environment that promotes enterprise growth and economic development.
Advancing Trade and Investment
The Chamber will continue to promote trade facilitation, investment opportunities, and regional economic integration through initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
These efforts will support businesses in accessing new markets, developing partnerships, improving competitiveness, and taking advantage of emerging trade and investment opportunities.
Institutional Consolidation
As part of its long-term vision, the Chamber will continue strengthening its governance structures, operational systems, and member services to build a more efficient, responsive, and sustainable institution.
These efforts will support the Chamber’s ability to effectively represent Sierra Leone’s private sector, deliver greater value to members, and contribute meaningfully to national economic development.
