National Seminar on Competition Law and Policy

The Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (SLCCIA) was represented at the National Seminar on Competition Law and Policy, a multi-stakeholder forum aimed at strengthening Sierra Leone’s legal and regulatory framework for fair competition and consumer protection. The seminar brought together representatives from Government institutions, the private sector, regional organisations, and development partners to discuss the role of competition policy in promoting economic growth and market efficiency.

The discussions focused on the importance of establishing a competitive business environment that encourages innovation, protects consumers, and creates a level playing field for businesses of all sizes. Participants examined issues relating to anti-competitive practices, monopolies, price-fixing, and market regulation, while also exploring approaches to strengthening the country’s competition framework in line with regional and international best practices.

Through its participation, the Chamber contributed private sector perspectives on the need for balanced competition policies that promote investment while safeguarding the interests of local enterprises, particularly small and medium-sized businesses. The engagement reaffirmed SLCCIA’s commitment to supporting policy reforms that enhance business competitiveness, encourage responsible market practices, and foster sustainable economic development.
