Engagement with the Ministry of Energy
As part of its ongoing efforts to advocate for an enabling business environment, the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (SLCCIA) held a strategic engagement with the Ministry of Energy to discuss issues affecting the private sector, with particular emphasis on the availability, reliability, and affordability of electricity for businesses.
The meeting provided an important platform for dialogue between the Chamber and the Ministry on the critical role that energy plays in driving economic growth, industrialisation, investment, and private sector competitiveness. Chamber representatives highlighted the challenges faced by businesses as a result of unreliable power supply and high energy costs, noting the impact these have on productivity, operational efficiency, business expansion, and job creation. The Chamber emphasised that improving access to reliable and affordable energy remains essential for creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
Discussions also explored opportunities for strengthened collaboration between the Ministry and the Chamber in addressing energy-related challenges affecting the business community. Both parties recognised the importance of maintaining regular engagement to identify practical solutions that support industrial development, attract investment, and improve the overall ease of doing business in Sierra Leone.
The engagement reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to constructive public–private dialogue and its continued advocacy for policies and initiatives that promote sustainable energy access, strengthen private sector growth, and contribute to the country’s long-term economic development.
